London Colney dropped two points in the race for promotion after a 0-0 draw at home to Biggleswade United in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

The Blueboys started brightly with a low cross from Lee Armitt from the right being hacked clear. Dan Power swept the ball over into the box and Lee Close fired a rising effort just over the crossbar.

The hosts continued to push for the opener and Armitt was denied when his shot hit the side netting.

Greg Shaw had London Colney’s next effort but his header flew narrowly wide.

Visiting goalkeeper Tom Wyant managed to keep out Armitt’s effort as Biggleswade desperately kept the scoreline level.

Captain Danny Fitzgerald was forced off with a suspected broken nose and replaced by Spencer Clarke-Mardel.

The hosts went even closer when Armitt’s strike cannoned off the post.

London Colney were denied again on several occasions in the second half by the impressive Wyant.

But the Blueboys were reduced to ten men when Dan Power was given a second yellow card.

The hosts could not find a winner and the result leaves them third.
