Harpenden Town held South Midlands Division One leaders Edgware Town to a 2-2 draw at Rothamsted Park on Saturday.
The result leaves Harpenden fifth in the table after an impressive display against the table-toppers.
Manager Danny Plumb said: “It was a good performance matching the best team in the league.
“I was disappointed that we couldn’t hold on for a win but the draw was probably a fair result.
“I was happy with our commitment but now we need to do it week in, week out especially as we have several games with top sides in the run-in.”
Harpenden started with real purpose and after 12 minutes Harry Hunt picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and volleyed his strike in off the post for the opener.
Ben Warren crossed to Jimmy Hill who flicked the ball up and volleyed into the top corner over the head of keeper to extend the lead.
Edgware clawed one back when Harpenden keeper Jake McClean parried a shot and Oluwamayowa Balogun followed up.
In the second half Balogun found the net again to salvage a point for the leaders.
