St Albans City manager Ian Allinson admits his side have given themselves a chance of staying up and insists the team must "see it over the line" after their third consecutive win.

The Saints appeared to be heading for relegation from the National League South but the arrival of Allinson last month has rejuvenated the club. The team won 2-1 at Concord Rangers on Saturday which made it 12 points from the last five games to revive their survival hopes.

City are still in the relegation zone, in 20th place, but their recent form has moved them to within three points of safety.

Allinson said: "We've given ourselves half a chance and now we've got to go and make sure we see it over the line.

"We've got to go into those last seven games probably still needing to win four or five of them but I think the way the team's playing at the moment we certainly look like we have goals in us."

He added: "That's two games on the trot we've come from 1-0 down and picked up results so we've just got to keep believing. The supporters have been absolutely fantastic and got behind the club and dragged the ball in during the last couple of minutes.

"Everybody's got together and needs to stick in there because we have given ourselves half a chance of staying up now."

The Saints found themselves 1-0 down after just 17 minutes of the contest when Concord captain Steve King headed past visiting goalkeeper Joe Welch.

But Allinson's side grabbed the equaliser six minutes before the break when Lee Chappell's corner was headed home by Ben Martin.

It looked as if the match would end all square but a dramatic conclusion saw the Saints snatch a potentially priceless win with an 89th minute goal.

The ball fell to Louie Theophanous and the City striker hit a superb 20-yard shot to hand the Saints a vital three points.

Allinson said: "It's nice to win the third game on the trot which is important. It's never an easy place to come and pick up points.

"I think going into the last five minutes I'd settled for a point until Louie picked the ball up there and scored a fantastic goal. It was an absolutely great strike and worthy of winning the game in the end."

The Saints face another vital weekend with two games over Easter which will have a big impact on their hopes of getting out of trouble.

City host Eastbourne Borough on Saturday before travelling to Hemel Hempstead Town on Monday.

Allinson said: "We go into a weekend where it could go either way. Whatever we pick up is going to be a bonus. If we don't pick anything up then we've got five games left and we'll probably need to go and win four of those."
