London Colney edged past Sun Sports 2-1 in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday after a sublime winner from Jack Woods.

The Blueboys struck first blood in the 14th minute, when Spencer Clarke-Mardel showed great composure to finish from close range after a deflection fell to his feet.

Sun Sports rallied and claimed their equaliser after 27 minutes through Lewis Bircham, after his mazy run and excellent low finish into the corner.

London Colney responded superbly and were back in front within a minute of conceding, as Woods spotted Andy Hopping off his line and executed the perfect lob to restore the lead, delivering a sucker punch to Sun Sports.

The away team were doubly frustrated when Jon Clements saw his own lobbed effort cannon off the crossbar, before Charlie Smith’s free-kick rattled the woodwork.

The Blueboys travel to Leverstock Green tonight before hosting St Margaretsbury on Saturday in the league.
