St Albans maintained their 100 per cent record in Herts Division Two B after easing to an eight-wicket win over Hemel Hempstead Town Seconds on Saturday.

Matt Howeson again won the toss but chose to field in what were deemed to be bowler-friendly conditions. Lewis Hodgins made light of these by scoring a quick 20 before picking out Phil Caley, who took a sharp catch at mid-wicket.

From here on the bowlers dominated. Dan Rosson picked up a couple of wickets before a double change slowed the run rate with wickets given away as the visitors tried to push on.

Mbekezeli Mabuza took two for 20 and Charlie Smith claiming three for 20 ensured a low target of 109 when rain threatened. Sandipan Chanda took three catches.

Ben Nicholl and Adam Hounslow began quickly, helped by six wides in the first two overs. They put on 42 in seven overs before a direct hit from point ran out Nicholl.

The rain arrived soon after with St Albans 52 for one. The delay meant the loss of 19 overs and a revised target of 68.

The umpires decided that a minimum of 20 overs had to be bowled to constitute a match. Goodfellow departed soon after the break but Mabuza joined Hounslow and with the 20 overs up the initial target of 109 was reached. Mabuza scored 24 not out with Hounslow unbeaten on 40.
