St Albans Masters Swimming Club regained the title of Herts ASA Masters County Champions, taking home a haul of gold medals on Saturday.

Club chairman Craig Kirkland said: “Nineteen of us arrived at the pool facing 11 teams, the biggest being Hemel with 24 swimmers and Hartham with 20.

“Both teams had more individual, and a lot more relay entries than STAM so it was going to be tough.

“We had a fantastic attitude, spirit and atmosphere within our team and we shot through the water. The races came fast and furious but everyone was euphoric from great swims. It is a long time since I have had such fun relating stories of our swims and encouraging each other along.”

This is a significant win in the club’s calendar and added to an already successful year following the London European Championships.

Club chairman Kirkland set the fastest time out of over 1,300 entries in the Dart 10k river swim at the beginning of September.
