St Albans City’s losing run in the National League South extended to three games on Tuesday as they went down to a 3-0 defeat against Wealdstone.

The loss provides the latest blow to the Clarence Park club’s ailing play-off hopes after goals from Joe White, Tom Hamblin and Danny Green handed the visitors a comfortable win.

City were second best throughout the first half and went behind with 21 minutes on the clock after a well worked move allowed Green to whip in a cross.

A dummy from Hamblin saw all three scorers combine as White bundled home from close range.

City were far better after the restart and manager Ian Allinson opted to introduce Charlie Walker and Jamie Cureton from the bench.

The duo provided greater attacking impetus, but could not break down a stubborn Stones defence, which was led by the impressive Hamblin.

White then spurned a great chance to give Wealdstone daylight, firing straight at James Russell when clean through on goal.

Russell had to be alert once more after Nathan Mavilla drew the best from the City keeper as he turned a goal bound effort around the post.

Wealdstone’s pressure eventually told with 81 minutes on the clock after a poor clearance was sent back into the box and Hamblin was given time to bring the ball down.

He calmly placed a shot beyond the despairing Russell to all but seal City’s fate before Green compounded their misery with a late third.

Again the defending left a lot to be desired after a simple pass found Green in space in the box and he finished with ease.

City remain in eighth position in the table by virtue of the defeat but slip nine points off the play-off places after Chelmsford City’s 2-0 win over Margate.

They will look to lift themselves in time for the visit of Stortford on Saturday.
