London Colney maintained their position at the summit of the South Midland Premier Division, despite throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Leverstock Green on Saturday.

The Blueboys started well with plenty of chances and in the 30th minute the deadlock was broken when Dave Parkinson played in Spencer Clarke-Mardel to fire low past Leverstock Green keeper Liam Jahn.

It took just six minutes for Colney to double their lead when, after more good work from Parkinson, John Clements scored with a cool finish beyond Jahn.

London Colney had opportunities to add to their lead after the break but it was Green who scored next with a sublime volley from Jonathan Lacey.

Curtis Donaldson equalised for the away side and, despite a lot of pressure from the Blueboys, the game ended all square.

At the time of going to press, Colney were preparing to face Green again on Tuesday night before playing London Tigers on Saturday.

In Division One, Harpenden Town were frustrated by Buckingham Athletic as they were held to a goalless draw.

Heading into the game, Town would have expected to overcome 10th place Athletic, but were left frustrated as they failed to break down a stubborn defence.

The stalemate leaves Harpenden in third place, some three points behind Baldock Town and a further six adrift of pace setters Biggleswade.

They will take heart from two games in hand over the league leaders ahead of a home game against Hillingdon Borough on Saturday.

Borough occupy seventh spot in the table and come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Broadfields United.
