Organisers of an innovative new European Tour event to be played in Hertfordshire next month are hoping to attract a crowd of between 6,000 to 8,000 for each of the two days of the tournament.

Around 3,000 tickets have already been sold for GolfSixes, which will be played at Centurion Club in St Albans on May 6 and 7, but Tour officials are aiming to significantly increase on that number, with the capacity to have up to 10,000 spectators on site for the event.

Television host Vernon Kay is teaming up with the European Tour to co-host GolfSixes. He will introduce proceedings from the first tee and interact with players and celebrity guests across the weekend.

Prior to the start of the tournament, six celebrities will team up with six GolfSixes professionals to take on the six-hole circuit in a ProAm on Friday, May 5.

Along with Kay, Vinnie Jones, horse racing legend AP McCoy and former England bowler Darren Gough are due to play, and some of the celebrities will also join Kevin Pietersen and Denise van Outen on celebrity commentary duty over the weekend.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

Kay said: “I’m a huge golf fan, and avid participant, so I’m excited to be involved in the first ever GolfSixes event.

“I love the traditional format of golf and I’m always trying to bring the handicap down but this event is fresh and energetic and I hope we will be able to entertain existing fans as well as attracting new people to the sport, whether they come along and interact with us over the weekend, or watch from home.

“There will be a lot of action going on around the course, with players and celebrity guests getting involved, and I’m looking forward to being at the heart of it all.”
