Australia or Denmark will be crowned the inaugural GolfSixes champions later this afternoon after both nations’ two-man teams won their respective semi-finals 2-1 at Centurion Club.
The Australian pair of Sam Brazel and Scott Hend were handed victory on the last of the six holes after Scotland, who had previously ended Portugal’s hopes in the quarter-finals, conceded after failing to make par five.
Richie Ramsey and Marc Warren had won the previous hole to make the score 1-1 in the greensomes format event heading to the last, but the Scots were up against it after Warren put the second shot into the water at the St Albans club.
Victory on the final hole also ensured the Danish pair of Thorbjorn Olesen and Lucas Bjerregaard prevailed against the Italian duo of Matteo Manassero and Renato Paratore, who had knocked out England’s Andy Sullivan and Chris Wood in the last eight.
Like the second semi-final, the Italians had won the fifth hole to make the contest all square going to the last.
