Kieran Moss tastes victory at County Championships


Kieran Moss leapt for glory as he won gold in the Hertfordshire County Championships at Stevenage.

The Marlborough School pupil smashed the St Albans club record with a jump of 13.29m. The youngster also booked his qualifying place in the English Schools Championships in July. It was a double success for Moss after he also won the long jump with a distance of 6.17m.

James McMurry, the 1500m gold medalist, shaved more time off his 800m record winning in 2.37.

Khalid Al-Albaidy set a new personal best (PB) in the 2.53 in the Under-17 800m for St Albans. Ashley Ralph also celebrated victory in the discus in 48.68m.

Jake Awe won the 100m in 12secs while Chris Hilton was first in the 400m in 57.3.

Alice Townsend won the Under-13 shot putt event with a PB of 7.84m.

There were pole vault and javelin wins for Rowan Seglah and Abi Wilde respectively while Alicia Tymon-McEwan equalled the club record to win the 75m hurdles in 12.9.

Abi Holman claimed top prize in the Under-17 triple jump (11.02m) and Megan Steer set a new best in the Under 15 Girls competition. The STAGS pupil, who also won the 300m, shaved three seconds off her PB to earn gold in the 800m in 2.20.4.
