Saints City Trust to hold vote regarding potential donation to St Albans City

Saints City Trust are set to call a vote allowing members to decide whether to donate £6,000 to the football club.

The trust has been asked by St Albans City's board to contribute the money which a director initially offered to double. But after the trust was not invited to the last two board meetings, with no sign of progress, the two factions failed to reach an agreement.

City chairman John Gibson, who last week questioned the motivations of the trust, insists "this matter now needs to be resolved quietly and behind closed doors".

The trust will hold a vote for its 150 members with 66 per cent required to carry forward a resolution.

Acting trust chair Laura Graham said: "It is good to see that both sides are trying to make some progress with this. We are going to talk to our members and we want to get clarity on the issue and move forward. The reason for calling the vote is we want to make sure that our members are behind us and that we are acting in their interests."

The decision to hold a vote comes only days after club president Malcolm MacMillan asked the trust to reconsider their decision not to donate the money to the club.

MacMillan, who is a member of the trust, said: "I joined the City Trust in the belief that it has a huge role to play; that it should have a place on the board: that it will be a valuable critical friend; and, that it was above all committed to the well-being of the football club. I may have got it wrong, but I hope not, and would ask the trust to have a re-think on this issue of financial support."
