St Albans Masters Swimming Club fought well to tie the Ayelsbury Interclub Gala with Witney and District on Saturday.

Seven teams from surrounding areas contested the invitation gala which has become one of the most hotly anticipated events in the calendar.

The competition, which has 37 races consisting of individual 50m races and 4x25m relays, was fought out mainly between two teams.

St Albans Masters, who represented Hertfordshire, battled neck and neck through the whole competition with Oxford based Witney.

The action went down to the final event with Witney leading by two points but St Albans battled brilliantly during the final event to gain 186 points overall to tie the competition.
