Mixed start for St Albans Rangers

THE first weekend of the season produced mixed fortunes for St Albans Rangers as the Under-18 and 11 teams won but the Under-15s crashed to defeat.

The Under-18s recorded a well-deserved 3-2 win over Harpenden Hawks in a competitive match that had both keepers busy.

Harpenden scored first before Rangers quickly equalised through Nick Emson. Jack Faulder soon doubled the lead before a drilled shot from Joe Caunce sealed the win for the Whites. Hawks managed to pull a goal back but Rangers held on to grab all three points.

In the first 11-a-side game of their careers, the Under-11s also got the campaign off to a winning start as they stormed to a 7-5 victory over nine-man Edson Youth.

Goals from Reece, Louis Clegg, Callum Dobbie, Jack Mooney, Joshua Hillier and two from Robert Farrer completed the exciting win for Rangers.

However, the Under-15 Whites were left to rue missed chances as they fell to a 5-2 defeat against Evergreen.

Goals from Stevie Kench and Daniel Lenihan were not enough to avoid defeat against an impressive Evergreen team.

The St Albans Rangers Reds Under-10s also enjoyed a bright start to the season, winning 19-0 over Abbots Youth Blues.

Man-of-the-match Jack Hawthorne scored eight of the goals.

Harvesters' teams enjoyed a strong start to the season with all their sides avoiding defeat.

The Under-16s South recorded an impressive 6-1 win over Alexandra Park South with goals from James Biggs, Ben Blight, Ben Gull, Wilf Steward and two from Harry Paratusic.

Harvesters Under-15s North were forced to settle for a 4-4 draw against St Albans North as goals from Morgan Williams, Ronnie Blagden and Jack Nevin were not enough to take all the points.

The Under-14s South stormed to an emphatic 14-0 away win over Brady Macabi.

James Banathy was in impressive form, scoring six of the Harvester goals. Their other scorers were Jack Cahill, Patrick Dobinson, James Murray, Ronan Gaffney, Sam Nevin, George Robbins and Calum McDonald, who got two.

There was also a high-scoring game for Harvesters Under-13s South, who claimed an 11-0 win over Cassiobury.

Ali Jones, James Smillie, Billy Edmunds, Gabriel Connolly, Tom Cunliffe and James Cleaver, who got five, all netted goals.

The Under-12s South side had to settle for a 3-3 draw against Olympiacos Red with goals from Sean Clifton and Ewan Wattley (2).

Harvesters Under-10s South recorded a 9-1 victory over Gadeside Rangers in the League Cup.

Hat-tricks from Ben Cambell and Taylor sealed the win for the side.
