Harpenden Swimming Club’s B Team clinched promotion after winning the Herts Major League Division Three last weekend.

The competition is held over three sessions and the team won the first two rounds and came second on Saturday, with a depleted side as some of the A team were injured.

Harpenden Swimming Club’s A Team competed in Division One and came ninth out of 12 clubs. This was a respectable finish given the club is relatively small with only 130 swimmers and many were unable to compete due to injury.

Head coach Annie Thompson said: “We had a successful major league as HSC’s A team retained their Division One status for the eighth consecutive year and HSC’s B team gained promotion to Division Two.

“All the swimmers should be really proud of their achievements. We’re now looking forward to the County Championships as over 30 swimmers will be competing in events.”

Meanwhile members trained for the upcoming county championships spending a week at camp at Bath University in February, where they swam for four hours a day. They were also able to watch international swimmers such as Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson in action.
