Club captain Steve Wilson and wife Joyce held a bowling fun day to celebrate their 25 years at St Albans Bowling Club and raise money for charity Epilepsy Research UK.

Their son Adrian suffered epilepsy for many years but had a successful operation carried out four years ago.

Six other clubs participated in the fun day – Radlett, Townsend, Batchwood, Harpenden outdoor and indoor and Woodside. These six teams played teams from St Albans. The result was a 58-54 win for the home team.

The top rink was Mike and Monnie Jefferies, Jill Morris and Alan Turner. Thanks to the generosity of the players £200 was raised for Epilepsy Research UK.

The midweek men defeated Hatfield 78-71. The top rink was Mike Jefferies, Phil Macarthur, Tony Morris and Ken Budd (25-14).

St Albans lost 37-31 to Harperbury in the County League. The men played two rinks winning 22-18 on one. The winning team was Jim Cockburn, Phil Macarthur, Neville Simons and John Bartlett. The other rink lost 19-9. The ladies also played Harperbury on one rink and were 11-11 after 12 ends but Harperbury gradually pulled away winning 18-14.

St Albans earned a 103-98 win over Hatfield. The top rink was Sue Fogarty, Andy Thomas, on his first game for the club, Andy Kay and Ken Budd (30-12).

In the Stockman-Winser District mixed fours competition Maralyn and Bob Pomeroy and Joyce and Steve Wilson lost 18-17 to Hemel Hempstead’s Tony Young, Gary Eagles, Pat Gillings and Grace Salmon.

The Wilsons joined Sylvia and John Cooper at Batchwood and entered the President’s Charity Shield in aid of Grove House and Help the Heroes. St Albans came though victorious winning their rink by 14 shots.

Pauline Gardiner and Tricia Gascoine won 24-10 against Maggie Kendrick and Barbara Davis in round one of the district pairs competition.
