London Colney edged to a 2-1 win at Leverstock Green in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

Jason Beck saw his fierce low drive saved by home keeper Kieran Jimmy but only at the second attempt as he quickly pounced on the loose ball after it had spun out of his hands.

A free-kick then fell to Beck but his header rose over the bar. Beck was unlucky minutes later when he fired in a shot which was pushed round the post by Jimmy.

The breakthrough came after 28 minutes for the Blueboys when Tom Smith sent the ball into the area and Spencer Clarke-Mardel smashed his effort into the net.

Sean Ridgway fired in a low effort that went wide whilst Clarke-Mardel sent a fine curling shot that whistled past the far post with Jimmy rooted to his line.

Just before the break Leverstock Green should have equalised when Adam Wallace was set up with a clear shot on goal but instead he blasted his effort wide of the far post.

The visitors extended their lead in the second half when Shaun Murphy knocked the ball on and Greg Shaw sent a looping header into the net.

It was almost 3-0 when Cain Davey blasted over the bar while Russell Gallagher had a shot saved by the Green keeper.

With only a minute or two to go Leverstock thought they had won a penalty but the referee decided otherwise and the player was booked for diving. But the hosts kept pushing forward and were rewarded with a goal when Luke Warner-Ely curled a free-kick past Jack Smith.

London Colney entertain Hillingdon Borough this weekend at Cotlandswick. London Colney Reserves fought back from 2-0 down to beat leaders Sun Sports Reserves 4-2 in the Reserve South & East Division.
