It was an even contest but the visitors were left frustrated as they failed to convert several decent opportunities.
There is a full programme of action at Oaklands this weekend with the men returning to competition at home to City of Peterborough.
One of the highlights of the weekend for the Tangerine Army was a 2-0 away win achieved by the ladies thirds at Potters Bar to go second in East Div 2C.
The ladies fifths also prevailed by the same scoreline at Stevenage. Two Nikki Davies goals sent them second in Five Counties Division Three.
This Saturday, the unbeaten ladies firsts head to Horsham.
After a successful St Albans Hockey Club half-term holiday camp which saw several current international players coaching nearly 70 local young players at Oaklands, youth stayed centre stage on Saturday as 13-year-old Dan Burns and 14-year-old Sam Vance put in outstanding performances for the men’s eighth team.
The pair contributed to a 4-1 win over Berkhamsted which saw the club’s newest team go second in East Division 9SW. Earlier in the day, a teenager-packed men’s third XI, with boy’s club captain Callum Emmerson to the fore, recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over Richmond.
