St Albans Hockey Club survived a late fight-back by Dereham on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

Goals from Tom Hudson, Adam Jones, Mark Lowden (2) and Scott Apps helped The Tangerines storm into a 5-1 lead before the hosts clawed back three goals late on to end the nine-goal thriller on the wrong side of 5-4.

The victory lifts St Albans into third place in the East Premier Division A.

The Ladies were less successful, losing 2-0 to Harleston Magpies, but remain second in the Conference East.

St Albans had plenty of the possession and a series of penalty corners but were undone by goals midway through either half.

The Ladies Seconds fared better and are still top of East League Division 1S.

The Tangerines endured a disastrous start against Upminster but pressure and patience paid off with a Hayley Payne equaliser just before half time.

The points were secured for St Albans through a skilful Annie Barratt volley to make it 2-1.

This Saturday both first teams are at home, as the Ladies’ game with Chelmsford at 1pm is followed two hours later by the Men’s clash with Harleston Magpies.
