Townsend were too strong for Harperbury in the Top 11.

The side were quickly in the lead, when first, Peter Thomson won his two wood singles, and then Dave Houghton won his singles match.

Next to finish were the triples of Andy Bates, Robbie Ransted and Gary West - skipping against his father - who prevailed by four shots.

At that stage with the match lost, Harperbury conceded the tie. The Townsend fours, of Mike Doherty, Carl Robinson, David Day and Peter Armstrong, and the pairs, of Danny Macro and Alfie Long were both leading when the match ended.

In the midweek friendly, four mixed rinks from Clarence Park were welcomed to Townsend. At the half way stage there was little to choose between the teams with the score level at two rinks each, although the two Townsend rinks were well in the lead in their respective matches.

After tea, the other two home rinks started to pull away, handing Townsend a 94-59 victory and 4-0 success on points.

The top rink for Townsend, featuring club coach Clyde Martindill, husband and wife Ted and Jean Marriott and skip Tony Izzard were 10-8 down at halfway, but won 22 of the next 27 points to cruise home 30-15. They were narrowly ahead of the second rink of Ian Forster, Robbie Ransted, Bob Padget and Peter Thomson, who won 27-14.
