St Albans slipped to a three-wicket defeat to Radlett Seconds in Herts Division Two A on Saturday.

Batting first, St Albans could only score 157 all out from 47.4 overs. This always looked on the short side and Radlett punished them by chasing down the total for the loss of seven wickets in 41.3 overs.

It leaves St Albans with just one win from their opening five games ahead of this weekend’s match against Preston.

St Albans Seconds slumped to a 129-run defeat to Leverstock Green Seconds in Division Four B.

Leverstock Green batted first and ruthlessly set a total of 321 for nine. It was a tough innings for the St Albans bowlers but Ian McKinlay fared best returning figures of three for 34 from four overs. Uttam Vijender also came away with three for 58.

St Albans’ response got off to an encouraging start with Sam Kindlen hitting 59. But the rest of the top order failed to hit form and it was left to Vijender to score 38 along with an unbeaten 25 from Amit Rajani. This was not enough though as the side fell well short of the target finishing on 192 for seven.

St Albans Thirds coasted to a nine-wicket win over Reed Thirds in Division Eight A.

Reed simply had no answer to the Saints’ bowling attack and crumbled to a meagre 88 all out in just 30 overs. Ben Adshead stole the plaudits as he took five for 16 from eight overs. James Everdell and Richard O'Toole both claimed two wickets apiece.

St Albans opener Matthew Ingham was unbeaten on 41 and 24 not out from Shantanu Jadhav helped the side ease to victory.

St Albans Fourths maintained their winning start to the Regional Division B West season by thrashing previously unbeaten Langleybury Fourths by nine wickets.

Jon Little and Joe Button commenced proceedings admirably the side were asked to field first. Ciaran Walsh and Andrew Walker then found their lines and were given welcome support in the field. Jamie Telkman took the wicket of top scorer Kevin Gallagher for 48.

Having done the hard work up front, the rewards were reaped as Saints crashed through the rest of the lineup, Telkman's three wickets (three for 29) being followed by Steve Hiscock's two ball spell that yielded two wickets as Langleybury were dismissed for 109.

Openers Harsha Karunanayake and Nick James set about reinforcing the work done with the ball. Again, they built from a slow start, knowing that the home side would fade as runs accumulated.

Karunanayake was unfortunate to fall for 34 but the score was already on 70 at this point. James was unbeaten on 49 as the Saints coasted to a one-sided win.
