St Albans Girls' School pupil Amy Platten successfully defended her title in the judo in the under-44kg category at the Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games.

“I don’t think I started as well as I wanted, but then I got better which was to do with warming up and things like that. My confidence went up with each fight as well,” she said.

“It means a lot to win a medal. I love this competition and so winning gold is brilliant. I feel happy and very proud, and relieved that I can relax now.

“I wouldn’t have been happy if I didn’t get gold, so that’s what I was hoping for. I won gold last year as well.

“I love the event because it’s multisport, and there aren’t many like it so it’s definitely my favourite event. I like the cheering and the tunes, and being part of the crowd is good as well.”
