Verulam golfer Glen Portelli has qualified for the PGA play-offs in Turkey after finishing third in the Order of Merit.

Portelli, pictured on the far right, finished tied second at the Lynx Golf Championships with a score of four-under-par.

It earned him a spot at Antalya Golf Club where he will compete against an elite field of PGA professionals from Britain and Ireland.

The top-10 in Turkey qualify to play in next May’s multi-million pound BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The 24-year-old barely missed a green as he followed up an opening 69 with the same score to just pip Stuart Brown to a qualifying spot.

Portelli said: “I am very pleased to get over the line.

“It’s probably up there as the biggest achievement of my career so far. I can’t think of anything else that tops it.

“It’s what we all set out to do and now I’ve got the chance to qualify for bigger events such as Wentworth.

“Guys from the region have done very well there in previous years – now I want to go there and fly the flag for the East region.”

David Salisbury was the winner of the Lynx Golf Championship at the Rayleigh Club after he recorded a score of eight-under-par. Portelli was second alongside Darren Charlton, Luke Eggleston and Mark Talbott.
