Verulamians clinched an impressive 34-5 home victory over Royston in their Herts Middlesex One game on Saturday.

Vees went in 20-0 at half-time with some storming play by their dominant forwards.

Their pressure ended up with Josh Lawrence and Mike Hollister crossing the line to put Verulamians in a commanding position.

An accurate Ben Russell converted both tries and added one himself plus another conversion and a penalty, which gave Vees a comfortable lead over Royston.

Initially in the second half it looked as though Royston would offer some stern opposition in the first 20 minutes.

The opposition managed to score a try under the posts, which their kicker unbelievably failed to convert from an easy position.

This small encouragement spurred Vees forwards to greater heights and Russell gained his brace, while winger Levi White crunched in from 40m out.

Once again, Russell obliged with the conversions to round off a convincing win for the Vees.

Verulamians are away on Saturday to Old Streetonians in their next fixture as they bid to keep their recent form going.
