Hertfordshire started their 2015-16 Inter County Championship campaign with a narrow 22-18 loss to Buckinghamshire.
The first session of play returned just one win for Herts with Harpenden's Pauline Taylor losing her pairs match 14-12.
In the triples and fours, Harpenden's Liz Bradley helped the team win 15-9. Harpenden's John Taylor was beaten 11-10 in their team match.
Harpenden's Sue Murray and Eileen Prior were part of the team beaten 13-7.
In the third session, Taylor helped her pairs team win 18-11.
The final session was reverse triples and fours with Liz Bradley's group losing 16-13.
Murray and Prior started their last end locked at 9-9. The Hertfordshire quartet scored the single they needed and won 10-9.
Taylor helped the team win 12-9 although it was not quite enough for Herts as they were pipped overall.
