St Albans City have been drawn away to Lowestoft Town in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday, November 28.

Meanwhile joint manager James Gray admits it was vital his side claimed a victory over Wealdstone to boost their hopes of climbing out of trouble.

The Saints remain in the relegation zone of National League South but clinched a first league win since September after defeating Wealdstone 1-0 at home on Saturday.

Gray said: “The win is the most important thing but it’s obviously all the sweeter when you come up against a side you used to play for. I was obviously captain down there for three seasons and a club that I really like. They have great fans and a great manager in Gordon [Bartlett] and the backroom staff as well.

“We just needed three points however we got it. That was my team talk. Whether it was a scrappy one or a 35 yarder from a free-kick we just needed the three points and the boys delivered.”

The Saints boss added: “We looked a little shaky at times which is to be expected because we were second from bottom but I think once the goal went in we did settle down.

“Throughout the park we did the job and there were some good performances and some players getting back to what I expect from them.”

St Albans’ winner came after 25 minutes when defender Ben Martin headed in his first league goal for 14 months when he nodded in from Graeme Montgomery’s corner.

It means the Saints have moved up to third bottom ahead of this Saturday’s trip to second bottom Weston-Super-Mare.

Former Arsenal full-back Jernade Meade was brought on against Wealdstone after signing from Hadley and Gray believes he will be a useful addition to the squad.

The City boss said: “He’s got a great centre of gravity. He’s small, very quick and gets over the ground. He’s coming back to fitness and he has still got a couple of professional clubs looking at him and obviously wants to get back into the professional game. But he’s our player and we will try to get the best out of him.”
