Verulamians claimed a 27-12 victory over Old Streetonians in Herts Middlesex One on Saturday.

The front eight once again secured plenty of ball to enable the backs to dictate the territorial advantage, particularly in the second half and unleash some dynamic play by fly-half Tom Maile.

It was inevitable that after the opening successful penalty by Gareth Waters that the home side would increase the lead and this was achieved on the stroke of half-time by Darren Westhead at the end of a driving maul to make it 10-0.

Shortly after the re-start an Old Streetonian cleverly placed grubber kick enabled their winger to casually stride over and make it 10-5.

This surprise caused Vees to turn on the after burners and a break by Tom Maile sent Ben Russell storming through to convert his own try and make it 17-5.

Renewed forward pressure secured another offside penalty which Waters converted and within another ten minutes Maile dazzled his opposition centres and glided through to score another try which sealed the win.

Vees travel to Barnet Elizabethans this weekend.
