Harpenden skier Max Baggio is already targeting further success at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships after clinching double silver on Sunday.

The Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships are taking place in the world-class ski resort of Tignes, France from March 20 to April 1.

The super-G event opened proceedings on day one and Baggio’s performances saw him win a silver medal in both the senior and junior race.

And while the 20-year-old knows his displays were not perfect, he was delighted to get his week in France off to a successful start.

Baggio said: “It feels really good to get two silver medals. I skied really well at the top but there was a little bit at the bottom which was quite difficult.

"There were a few mistakes here and there but nothing too bad. I thought I could have done a bit better but I lost time at the bottom, although I was pleased with how I skied at the top.

“I tend to think about just skiing well and hopefully things come with that – it’s not necessarily about just winning titles. It is about skiing well and being happy with your own race.

“I’m in every event this week and obviously it would be cool to win the British title in all of them but I’ll just try my best and see what happens really.”

The Championships are the biggest event of the year for the British ski racing world and Delancey are the principal sponsor for the sixth year running.

Baggio’s work in the French Alps is far from done as he attempts to add to his medal haul in the downhill, slalom and giant slalom later this week.

And he is hoping that his recent good form will continue, enabling to walk away with further podium finishes.

“The season has been quite good for me,” added Baggio. “I managed to get some good results in January and then I was quite happy with my performances at the English Champs.

“It is just my slalom that needs to come together. We do ski some super-G but we haven’t done much this season – it has been mainly tech events.

“The other disciplines feed into super-G quite well though, especially giant slalom.”
