Harpenden Town battled to a 4-2 win at Wodson Park on Saturday to regain fifth place in Spartan South Midlands Division One.

Within a minute of the start they were behind when Harry Bushell lobbed the goalkeeper.

The visitors quickly levelled after Jimmy Hartley crossed from the left and defender Tom Collin headed home.

But the hosts took a lead into the break when Bushell volleyed in his second goal of the game.

Harpenden improved in the second half and were rewarded with an equaliser on the hour mark when striker Jimmy Hill fired home from a tight angle.

Town took the lead for the first time in the 78th minute when Hill netted his second goal.

The visitors sealed the points six minutes later when Jimmy Hartley marked his return to the side by blasting home.

Manager Danny Plumb said: “We can’t keep putting ourselves in the position we are by going behind to soft goals.

“We need to take the game by the scruff of the neck and pressure from the start.

“Having said that the conditions were hard with the wind and state of the pitch and I am very happy with the result and fifth place in the league.”
