Harpenden Swimming Club's Abby Smith won three gold medals at the ASA East Region 15 & Over Swimming Championships in Norwich.

Smith set club records to win the 200m and 400m while also winning the 17 and over 800m. She also claimed bronze in the 100m freestyle.

Claire Burrell won gold in the 100m backstroke while picking up bronze medals in the 15-year-old 200m backstroke and the 50m race, all in club age group records.

John Telensky was the other medal winner for Harpenden after finishing third in the 15-year-old 50m freestyle. He was fifth in the 200m butterfly.

Michael Ripper made the finals of the 15 year olds 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle, finishing sixth in both, and Joe Richardson made the 15 year olds 50m breaststroke where he came seventh.

Aggie Burns, who was competing in her first regional championships, achieved personal bests in both the 50m and 200m backstroke, and Juliet Merelie swam to 11th and 13th in the 200m breaststroke and 400m IM.

The club also debuted two relay teams, with Michael Ripper, John Telensky, Joe Richardson and Angus Harrow coming together to place 11th in the 4 x 100m medley relay and ninth in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.

With four gold and four bronze medals the club finished ninth on the medal table overall, and the 4th best Hertfordshire club at the competition.
