Harpenden Bowling Club’s Dena Roberts, Linda Newby, Jan Holland and Linda Brooks won their county fours match 26-11 against Potters Bar.

In the district league, Hemel Hempstead won on shots to take 50 points to Harpenden’s 30.

A Harpenden ladies team playing at home lost by just a small number of points to a side representing a district league side.

St Albans Bowling Club’s Alan Turner and Dave Church won 23-8 against Potters Bar’s Barrie Bowman and Terry Barker.

This was followed by Alan Turner and Tricia Gascoine with a 19-17 victory at Welwyn & District’s Val and Alwyn Challacombe in the national mixed pairs.

But St Albans lost 104-91 in their five-rink friendly at Cheshunt.

Top rink for the team were Alison Thomas, Sue Fogarty, Trevor Ewer, and skip Ken Budd who narrowly won 23-21.

The following day St Albans faced Welwyn Garden City.

Leading on three of the four rinks, the side eventually succumbed to the fightback from their opponents. St Albans lost 72-63 overall.

Their top rink was Jim Cockburn, Wendy Parsons, Kevin Hull and skip Andy Kay who won a close match 18-14.
