Harpenden Bowling Club progressed to the semi-final of the County Top Team after a 6-2 points win over Royston.

Tom Muir won the singles by eight shots and the pairs of Woody Donoghue and Nick Muir and the fours of John Williams, Doug Hall, Noel Roberts and David Brooks won.

But the triple of Colin Driscoll, Kevin Brazier and Tony Redford had stiffer opposition and lost.

In the district league four men’s and two ladies’ teams played Welwyn Garden City. The ladies won on one rink losing on the other but winning overall by one shot. The men won two, lost two, but were beaten by ten shots.

Harpenden ladies lost 21-19 to Harperbury.

Colin Driscoll played Michael Mahoney of Datchworth on Sunday in the Hertfordshire final of the national senior singles.

After a very long close game, Driscoll lost 21-18.

Harpenden hosted county bowlers on Sunday with boys and girls aged between ten and 16 playing against club members.

Meanwhile St Albans' Bowling Club's Tricia Gascoine lost 21-10 to Rachel Tremlett of Royston BC in the last 16 of the county singles.

Robin Farrer, John Bartlett, and Steve Wilson progressed through to the third round of the district triples after beating the Welwyn & District triple of Mick Clements, Norman Muller, and Ian Snook (29-13).

But the other St Albans triple team of Alan Turner, David Church, and Dave Kiff lost by one shot on an extra end to a Hatfield trio. 

St Albans men lost to Shire Park in the Friday evening triples league on both home and away rinks (42-21).
