St Albans City boss Ian Allinson praised his players after they overcame a terrible journey to win 3-0 at Weston-super-Mare on Monday.

The Saints spent six hours travelling to Somerset due to traffic problems and the match was delayed until 3.40pm.

But the visitors did not let this bother them as they eased to victory, which leaves them third in the National League South.

Allinson said: “It is full credit to the players and the staff who got the players prepared because it’s very difficult.

“We made really good ground and left the club at half past eight this morning but as soon as we hit the M5 we just sat there for three hours.

“We only had half an hour to prepare when we got here but it sort of worked in our favour.”

Allinson added: “I have seen it before sometimes, you sitting around as the home team and getting into poor habits and you are waiting and you don’t know what time to do your warm up, whereas for us it was straight into the warm up and straight out there.

“It was good as we got three goals in very quick fashion and put it to bed by half time.”
