A dominant display from St Albans Hockey Club’s Men’s Firsts saw them trounce Chelmsford 6-1.

The victory means St Albans maintain their 100 per cent winning record this season and was notable for an impressive debut for South African under-21 international Steve McManus.

The youngster capped a fine solo display by netting twice and got the ball rolling for his side as he scored with very first touch for the club.

Elsewhere, the Ladies Thirds kept up their fledgling title challenge with a commanding 3-0 win against Hertford.

Jean Birch, Sarah Embrey and Georgie Impson-Davey got the goals for St Albans to keep them joint top of the table.

Away from the pitch, 16-year-old club member Maddy Davies has been selected for the Saxon Tigers under-18 side which will play in the Futures Cup.

The tournament is the top event in England Hockey’s Player Pathway for under-16 players and takes place during October half-term.
