League leaders London Colney edged to a 2-1 win at bottom side St Margaretsbury in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

The Blueboys were tested by their opponents but two penalties fired them to their 12th victory in 14 league matches to leave them 12 points clear at the top.

St Margaretsbury created the first chance through Courtney Clay but his header flew just wide.

Greg Shaw went close for the visitors from a header but goalkeeper Adam Seymour pushed the ball around the post.

London Colney were handed the chance to open the scoring five minutes into the second half after Mark Riddick was tripped in the area by Ray Carroll. Shaw stepped up and smashed home the penalty for the breakthrough.

But St Margaretsbury levelled the game when Clay burst into the area and fired past keeper Tom Gowans.

The hosts conceded a second penalty when Danny Gooding handled the ball. Shaw sent Seymour the wrong way to win the match.

London Colney travel to Godmanchester Rovers in the FA Vase on Saturday.
