Harpenden Town extended their lead at the top of the South Midlands Division One table to five points with a 6-0 thrashing of Brimsdown on Saturday.

Harry Hunt took his tally for the season to 18 with a brace to add to efforts from Ben Warren, Sam James and Sam Jenkins (2).

While Town manager Danny Plumb conceded that Brimsdown were not the stiffest of opposition, he was delighted with his side’s efforts.

He said: “This was not the toughest team we have played but it was very pleasing to score six and get a clean sheet.

“We have tougher games to come but it is all positive and I am really happy for the players.”

The victory was Harps’ fifth of the season by a margin of six goals or more and they have registered 17 times in their last four away games.

They return to home comforts in the league on Saturday as they entertain Bedford at Rothamsted Park.

Bedford’s form contrasts wildly with Harpenden’s and just four wins from their 16 league games leaves them 18th in the table.

They were on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat to Winslow United last time out and are without a win in their last eight matches.
