An impressive display of powerful punching saw boxer Anees Taj claim the elite heavyweight National Alliance Challenge Belt with a technical knockout win.
The 20-year-old, who fights for St Albans Amateur Boxing Club, took just one round to end the contest against Karolis Buabkus.
Having enjoyed success in the past, most notably in winning the Haringey Box Cup gold medal, Taj arrived at the bout in confident mood.
He faced a stern examination against Baubkus, however, with the Kettering Amateur Boxing Club member formerly holding the superheavyweight Elite Central England title.
Paying little attention to pedigree Taj, who lives on Mildred Avenue, started brightly as both fighters came out in a positive fashion. Holding the centre of the ring, Taj began to take control of matters, with his jab proving to be particularly effective.
He soon forced Baubkus back and a devastating combination of punches forced the referee to give him a standing eight count.
Despite being allowed to continue, Baubkus was now firmly on the defensive and some more punishing blows from Taj saw the fight stopped within two minutes of the first round.
