London Colney surrendered a one goal lead as they went down to a 2-1 South Midland Premier Division defeat against Tring Athletic.

After a cagey opening, Colney began to exert a measure of control on proceedings and work the Tring keeper with a number of long shots.

They made their dominance show just before the half-hour mark when Laurence Vaughan was found in space on the edge of the box and made no mistake with the finish.

Athletic’s response to going behind was not the strongest and they went into the break trailing, despite Elliot Goward going close with a free-kick.

The second half saw a role-reversal as Tring got on the front foot and went close from two corners as Max Hercules and Goward both fired wide.

Tring grabbed a route back into the game in the 62nd minute when Luke Dustan’s cross picked out George Carbery and he nodded back across goal.

Jack Reed arrived unmarked to tap in from close range to level the scores.

The comeback win was complete with 17 minutes to play when Goward, who had blasted over moments earlier, collected a pass from Hercules and finished smartly.

Elsewhere, Harpenden Town were made to work for a point against Leighton Town in a game which saw both sides lead.

Harps were firs to go ahead when David Keenleyside notched in the first half, but they were pegged back before the interval.

A second for Leighton left Harpenden chasing the game, but they were in no mood to be left with nothing to show for their efforts.

James Yates provided the pivotal moment as he levelled the scores and, despite both sides pushing for a winner, the game ended all square.

The result leaves Harpenden fourth in the table.
