St Albans Diving Club picked up a number of medals at the annual dive in on Saturday at Westminster Lodge.

The largest ever turnout of more than 230 youngsters, representing 17 clubs from the south, attended the 11th St Albans Dive In.

In the boys events, Ben Carman and Barnaby Trent received silver and gold in the novice group D and Ben Page was runner-up in the age group C event. In the last individual event of the day, Robert Metcalfe took gold in the novice group A.

Sacha Roberts gained bronze in the girls novice group E while Summer-Jasmine Sweeney won silver in the age group C event. Her team-mate Jessica George came third in the novice Group C. The young divers enjoyed a clean sweep in the next event, novice group B, with Alice Trent, Rebecca White and Ella-Mae Rayner receiving bronze, silver and gold respectively.

Not content with that, St Albans divers went on to take more medals in the synchronised events. Roberts and Yasmin Bayley took gold in Group E, Carman and Trent were third in group D and Louise Popkin and White claimed silver in group A.

Organiser Jane Simpkins said: "St Albans Diving Club, is a voluntary run organisation and without the support of parents, this event would not be able to take place. The largest ever crowd of spectators attended, with all the seating being taken and spectators having to stand at the back or sit on the steps.

"For many of these youngsters, this was their first ever competition and they all did their parents, their clubs and most of all themselves, proud."
