Former player of the season Ben Martin is close to agreeing a return to St Albans City.
The popular defender left the club last summer, after winning the end of season award, for Chelmsford City but he was released by them and is keen on moving back to Clarence Park. Martin, 27, spent time with the squad on Monday but has only recently had surgery on his left knee. He has spoken to manager Steve Castle and is hoping to finalise his return over the next week.
The Blue Square Bet South club received a major setback after versatile defender James Quilter suffered a serious knee injury on Friday night. The former Spurs youngster is still waiting for results on the scan but there are fears, if there is damage to his medial and cruciate tendons, he could be ruled out for the majority of the season.
In other news, the Saints have announced Lawrence Levy and John McGowan as their two newest directors on the board.
Levy owns an employment agency and is best known for his work with Grove House and the charity run which has raised more than £400,000. John McGowan has several business interests including owning several pubs in the area.
City chairman John Gibson, who expects to confirm another director within the next week, said: "They are both very lively characters and very much in the mould of successful businessmen.
"We are delighted they are on board. John and Lawrence know a lot of people and are prominent in business. It improves the esteem the board is held in in the community."
City play their first pre-season friendly on Friday night when they entertain Leyton Orient. The Saints follow this up with a home game against Watford at Clarence Park with both visitors expected to bring their first teams.
