Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly planning an astonishing bid to bring Freddie Kanoute back to White Hart Lane.

Kanoute was sold to Sevilla by former Spurs boss Martin Jol but was brought to the Premier League by Redknapp when he was West Ham manager.

Redknapp also paired Defoe and Kanoute upfront for the Hammers, a partnership which reaped rewards both at Upton Park and White Hart Lane.

With West Ham holding out for £14 million for the injury-prone Craig Bellamy, Redknapp is apparently on the verge of offering £4.8m for the tall hitman.

One stumbling block could be Sevilla's reluctance to sell the player to Spurs, following the acrimonious departure of Redknapp's predecessor Juande Ramos, who moved to White Hart Lane last year.

Kanoute has featured 14 times for the La Liga side scoring five goals, but at 31, a near £5m deal would represent good business for Sevilla who paid Spurs £4.4m for his signature in August 2005.
