My first real experience of the congestion horror in Oakwood Drive was when I was pregnant. I arrived home from work early for an antenatal appointment only to meet gridlock. With no option to move either back or forward I had to sit in my car as a very grumpy driver angrily gesticulated at me to move. Where to exactly? I was too large and too mesmerized by his wild flailing movements and anger- distorted face, to respond. Suddenly, he got out of his car and strode towards me....
I eased my six month pregnant bulk (quite considerable due to twins and steak) out of the car and watched as his mouth dropped open and he backed off. Scurrying apologetically back into his car he moved without another word. My babies could have been born in the road due to the stress. Fortunately for all of us they weren’t......
Our previous postman told me how he used to go to Beaumont on the back of his dad’s milk cart – which in those days was literally a horse with a cart. Point being that the school was built when there were far fewer cars and pupils. It was never meant for the traffic associated with the combined numbers of a popular 2 school road – there are approximately 1550 children in total using the road twice a day. Not to mention the delivery lorries, coaches, and construction vehicles.
Yes, there’s no doubt that it is definitely time for a new entrance, subject of course to agreement on some of the fine details of the plans with those affected.
