Have you seen one? Where can they be found? What do they do? Can you join a tour to see them in their natural habitat? What is a councillor and what do they do?

Unlike the birds of the air, and beasts of the field, they are not always easy to find.

Maybe they hibernate – that’s why I called them lesser spotted if you know what I mean, because you just don’t see them very often.

How do you get to see one then? Well, you can get a list of them and even see a photo or two but the best time to see them is at election time.

Then they all rush out and knock on your door just when it’s almost time to vote...

“Hello, I’m your local councillor for the Cosmic Bonding party, I love you, want to spend my life with you and above all, want your vote desperately at the local election. I promise to smile at you, brush the path with a palm leaf as you enter the school hall, just for heaven’s sake make sure I get elected”

“Didn’t get a reply to your letter or phone call? Ah, well, have a full time job as well you know. And a wife, and a dog, not to mention the cat” “Anyway, must be off, need some votes...

Only joking. Maybe. O.K not really. I know a few good ones – well, there’s one who I know is quite keen but who doesn’t like it when I hog the conversation which of course I do because I can’t help it – genetic origins and all that The lesser spotted councillor – an increasingly rare breed but occasionally seen scurrying away from a pile of angry letters, and very good at sprinting I love them, don’t we all?
