We hear and read about celebrity ‘quickie’ divorces all the time. The term implies that there is a special procedure for celebrity couples or ‘important’ people.

Quickie divorce is when the terms of divorce are agreed and both parties complete documents without delay as and when requested. The divorce is processed quite quickly and is in effect a paper exercise. However, usually the reasons for divorce are not agreed. One party is not willing to co operate and/or complete forms on time or there is a disagreement as to who should pay the costs for divorce etc etc. All of these factors lead to the divorce taking longer. The workload of the court can also be a factor.

As for getting divorced without attending court, this is always the case unless the divorce is defended, there is a disagreement about who should pay the costs or if the District Judge wants a query addressed in person. This is quite unusual considering that legal representation for a court attendance is often more than the cost of the divorce itself!

If you want a 'quickie' divorce, agree on the grounds for divorce and cooperate as and when required. You too can be divorced without court attendance within 3 to 4 months!
