As another school year comes to an end, there is a mixture of excitement, apprehension and relief, for students, parents and staff. There is however perhaps a tinge of sadness, for we all fear changes.

In my Roman Catholic Parish of Ss Alban and Stephen, we have celebrated the retirement of the Head Teachers, known and loved, of two of our Catholic Primary Schools. We wish them well at the start of a new chapter in their lives; for the schools there is a need to trust that change will allow new opportunities.

Students in some years will be leaving their classmates for new beginnings, and this brings some anxieties, and not only for the students. Parents too are anticipating the arrival of exam results and for some the prospect of their teenager leaving home. Again there is a need to trust these young people; teachers and parents have ‘sown the seeds’ and watched them germinate and grow, and must now allow them space to flourish.

God has entrusted each one of his precious children to our care, and God will always be there to watch over them and us. We must trust that God loves all of us infinitely more than we can ever do. This is very much a time, as it says on the prayer card on my desk, to ‘Let Go and Let God’.
