Big birthdays are always worth celebrating – and this year’s 90th birthday for The Queen promises to be a major celebration.

In Sandridge, we’ll be holding our church summer fete on Sunday afternoon June 12th, during the weekend when the nation has been urged to celebrate The Queen’s ninth decade.

The event will give us the chance to celebrate all that The Queen means to us. Most of us can’t remember a time when she did not rule over us, and do so with graciousness and charm.

Many books have been produced to celebrate The Queen, but one that arrived on my doormat caught my eye. It’s called ‘The Servant Queen and the King she serves.’

The book, packed with photographs, uses The Queen’s own words to draw out the central role of her trust in Jesus Christ in shaping her life and work. It offers “an inspiring multi-faceted insight into a life well lived for others.”

The Queen has written a special message for the book. In it, she says: “In my first Christmas broadcast in 1952, I asked the people of the Commonwealth and Empire to pray for me as I prepared to dedicate myself to their service at my Coronation.

“I have been – and remain – very grateful to you for your prayers and to God for His steadfast love. I have indeed seen His faithfulness.”

So as we prepare to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday, let’s remember the God who she honours and serves.
