It is over 25 years ago that a bomb went off in St Albans, prematurely it seems, killing its two couriers.

We are not complete strangers to violent hatred here.

It is almost 21 years ago that the IRA detonated a huge bomb in Manchester causing over a billion pounds of damage in today’s money. There were no fatalities then.

A different enemy strikes at London in 2005, then again this year and in Manchester now.

One person on Westminster Bridge out to create mayhem. One person it seems at the Manchester Arena standing beside children as he or she pressed the button.

It only takes a very small number of people with the right weapon to have a devastating impact on the life of our country.

Just one person can create lurid headlines, economic instability, untold suffering and fear amongst us all.

But one Christian believer, with God, can also make an impact – but here it should be for good.

It might be in their workplace, community or family. Perhaps in their drive for justice, the alleviation of poverty, or simply running clubs for those who need help.

“You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world”, said Jesus to his followers.

After all just one man on a cross, one of the cruellest weapons ever invented, has had a profound impact on the lives of millions of us, his disciples, today.
