I’m a railway nut - but I’m not the only one! In the mid- 1800’s the people of Harpenden and St Albans were as well.
They were desperate to have their own railway link for commercial and passenger purposes. So private enterprise connections were made with the main lines, and the Nicky Line, the now Alban Way, and the Abbey Flyer lines were built, as well as the subsequent Midland Mainline-Thameslink.
To minimise cost railways were constructed using the most direct and shortest route and, not surprisingly, London was usually the target.
Like the famous dog Churchill, we Christians have a direct line - to God. It’s instant, totally reliable, 24/7, and free - unlike most railways today.
However, while our present railways are increasingly popular, many people today don’t know of, or don’t use their direct line to God.
Too often we seek the world’s cures for our problems and challenges which don’t always work, or we wallow unhappily and stressed in our misfortunes, with no peace of mind.
God, the great Station Master, knows our every issue, and we are encouraged to release our difficulties to Him. We’re not guaranteed utopia in this world, but with God’s help we can live a satisfied and grateful life on the earth He gave us.
Your local St. Albans or Harpenden church can give advice on getting connected – and we wish you a blessed and rewarding journey!
