October 20th is a special day for us as Kings Community Church Hatfield and St Albans celebrates its 20th anniversary. It is special as it was born in our backroom in St Albans as a small group who met to hear from God and I was one of the founding leaders. This became a fledgling church, meeting at Verulam School, first in the music room, then the library and as we continued to grow finally the main hall. We moved our main meeting to Onslow St Audrey’s School Hatfield some years ago but have continued home group meetings in St Albans throughout.

The real joy for me has been to see the growth of a community with a shared love of Jesus and the freedom that knowing him brings. Of seeing students meet and fall in love at the church, get married, have families and become leading lights in the church. We have shared joy and pain, hardship and generosity and I have been blessed to be involved in the full range of church life extending from regular meetings, thanksgivings for new babies, believer’s baptisms, to weddings and funerals.

We have a continuing involvement in social action projects in both St Albans and Hatfield. We also support and visit related churches and their social projects around the world and have an ever-growing network of friends.

At a time of so much bad news and increasing concern over loneliness I am very thankful to be part of such a loving and caring community of true friends.
