St Albans is blessed with numerous Christian churches and communities of many denominations. Like any large family there are differences but the life we share in Jesus Christ outweighs these. The theme this year has been assembled by churches in the Caribbean, and addresses the abuses of human rights not only there, but in the UK too; human trafficking, modern day slavery, addiction to pornography and drugs as well as the effects of debt.

Several events have been arranged including; Candle exchanges last Sunday January 21st between SS Alban & Stephen, and Trinity United Reformed Church, and, St John Fisher (Marshalswick Catholic Mass Centre), Homewood United Reformed Church and St Leonard’s, Sandridge. While St Peter’s Church hosted the ecumenical service for this Prayer week, with readings and prayers by many different Christian groups.

Churches Together in Hertfordshire are holding a Service at High Street Methodist Church Harpenden, Thursday 25th January at 7.30pm, with Rev. Dr. David M. Chapman, Methodist District Chair Bedfordshire, and Bishop Paul McAleenan, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Westminster.

Every Friday at 12noon there is a Catholic Mass in the Lady Chapel of St Albans Cathedral.

On Saturday January 27th, SS Alban & Stephen Church in Beaconsfield Road, will be holding a ‘Finding Silence’ day with Bishop John Crowley from 10.45am-2.30pm in the Parish Hall. This annual event like all the events above is open to everyone and is an invitation to spend some supported quiet time in contemplation.
